At 1990 US Open, knocked out Steffi Graf 6-2, 7-6(7-4) in final to win a Grand Slam singles title; at same event, became lowest seed to win in 22 years (No. 5 seed), first female from Argentina to win a Grand Slam singles title and first South American to win US Open since Brazil’s Maria Bueno in 1966...Extended Monica Seles 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 before losing in the first-ever five-set season-ending championships final in 1990...Won the Silver Medal in singles at 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul...After a 42-tournament title drought, earned back-to-back titles beginning with 1994 season-ending championships, followed by 1995 Sydney…At 1994 season-ending championships, ended Martina Navratilova’s career with first-round upset…Surpassed $8 million mark in career earnings in 1995...Ended career in 1996 with 632 match wins...Formerly youngest semifinalist ever at Roland Garros; in 1985 she was 15-years and three-weeks old when she lost to Chris Evert…Recipient of the 1996 WTA Tour Diamond Aces Award; named the 1991 WTA Tour Most Improved Player; named 1985 WTA Tour Most Impressive Newcomer.
